چکیده
The goal of the Trade Knowledge Network (TKN) is to foster long-term capacity to address the complex issues of trade and sustainable development. TKN is a collaborative initiative of the International Institute for Sustainable Development and the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development; and kindly supported by the Rockefeller The International Institute for Sustainable Development contributes to sustainable development by advancing policy recommendations on international trade and investment, economic policy, climate change, measurement and indicators, and natural resources management. By using Internet communications, we report on international negotiations and broker knowledge gained through collaborative projects with global partners, resulting in more rigorous research, capacity building in developing countries and better dialogue between North and South. IISD's vision is better living for all—sustainably; its mission is to champion innovation, enabling societies to live sustainably. IISD receives operating grant support from the Government of Canada, provided through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and Environment Canada, and from the Province of Manitoba. The institute receives project funding from the Government of Canada, the Province of Manitoba, other national governments, United Nations agencies, foundations and the private sector. IISD is registered as a charitable organization in Canada and has 501(c)(3) status in the United States. The International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD) was established in Geneva in September 1996 to contribute to a better understanding of development and environment concerns in the context of international trade. As an independent non-profi t and non-governmental organisation, ICTSD engages a broad range of actors in ongoing dialogue about trade and sustainable development. With a wide network of governmental, non-governmental and intergovernmental partners, ICTSD plays a unique systemic role as a provider of original, non-partisan reporting and facilitation services at the intersection of international trade and sustainable development. ICTSD facilitates interaction between policy-makers and those outside the system to help trade policy become more supportive of sustainable development. By helping parties increase capacity and become better informed about each other, ICTSD builds bridges between groups with seemingly disparate agendas. It seeks to enable these actors to discover the many places where their interests and priorities coincide, for ultimately sustainable development is their common objective. The issue of protecting the environment and preventing environmental pollution is one of the priorities of Iran’s economic and social development plans. The purpose of this paper is to analyze changes in the environmental effects of electricity generation, as electricity production patterns change, on production and welfare of households in Iran by using the social accounting matrix of 2011 ...
متن کاملEnvironmental effects of genetically modified crops: differentiated risk assessment and management
A review of the literature shows that the environmental risks and benefits of genetically modified crops have varying degrees of certainty. For example, field studies have documented growing resistance to highly used pesticides. However, the risks of gene flow and deleterious effects on non-target organisms have not been evaluated at large field scales. Similarly, reduced pesticide use and toxi...
متن کاملMulti-Attribute Modelling of Economic and Ecological Impacts of Cropping Systems
Modelling of economic and ecological impacts of genetically modified crops is a demanding task. We present some preliminary attempts made for the purpose of the ECOGEN project “Soil ecological and economic evaluation of genetically modified crops”. One of the goals of the project is to develop a computer-based decision support system for the assessment of economic and ecological impacts of usin...
متن کاملPlacement and Sizing of Various Renewable Generations in Distribution Networks with Consideration of Generation Uncertainties using Point Estimate Method
Abstract: Deploying Distributed Generation (DG) units has increased due to yearly increase of electric energy demand and technological advancements beyond Smart Grid. Although, DGs offer several advantages such as reducing economic costs and environmental impacts, the operation of these units in power systems creates several problems. In this paper, optimal allocation and sizing of DG units in ...
متن کاملBenefits of genetically modified crops for the poor: household income, nutrition, and health.
The potential impacts of genetically modified (GM) crops on income, poverty and nutrition in developing countries continue to be the subject of public controversy. Here, a review of the evidence is given. As an example of a first-generation GM technology, the effects of insect-resistant Bt cotton are analysed.
